A talk we delivered at the Learning Technologies Conference at H.I.T. Holon Institute of Technology. In the session, Ofer Kenig, Learning Development Team Lead at AppsFlyer, and I shared insights from the process of selecting a Learning Management System for our organization. We covered the preliminary steps before evaluating systems and vendors, offered guidance on writing an RFP, walked through how we assessed vendor responses, and shared plenty of tips from our personal experience. Youβre welcome to watch πΊ and download the RFP template π
How Is AI Changing the LMS Selection Process?
In the past, choosing an LMS was primarily about course management, permissions, reporting, and user experience. Today, you also need to examine how the system integrates with AI tools, whether it supports smart search, learning recommendations, knowledge gap analysis, and content development automation.
This means you can no longer select a system based solely on a feature checklist. You need to understand which learning processes the organization wants to improve, how success is measured, and which capabilities will still be relevant two years from now. If the goal is more personalized learning, it is worth connecting the system selection process to thinking about knowledge gap analysis and data-driven L&D practices.
Another important factor to examine is data ownership. A modern LMS should allow data exports, integration with BI or analytics tools, and structured documentation of learning activities in a format that can be analyzed. Without this, it becomes difficult to build intelligent recommendations, identify knowledge gaps, or demonstrate that learning is actually driving performance outcomes.
